This is the easiest way to do it.
That program specifically says it does NOT support Outlook EXPRESS which is what this post is all about. Download utorrent for mac os catalina.
Be aware that Outlook and Outlook Express are (despite their similar names) two different programs with two different mailbox formats. Make sure you get the right program or guide before you start. If you're trying to convert Outlook Express e-mails (like this hint's title), O2M (Outlook to Mac) won't work for you.
worked perfectly. Imported two large accounts (via CDs) in just a few minutes. I folled the detailed directions in the schwie link. Thanks
I folllowed the instructions in the scwie link. Except I forgot to change all my mailboxes from *.mbx to *.mbox
Mail did not care and imported them anyway. However, it kept the .mbx extension.
That is to say, inbox.mbx was imported as 'inbox.mbx' instead of as 'inbox' if I had changed the name to 'inbox.mbox' before I imported it.
Of course, I double-clicked on the mailbox and renamed it to 'inbox' and that was it.
Long story short, you don't have to rename your *.mbx files before you import them into Mail from Outlook Express.

I have emails in OE on an OS9 iMac from 2000-2005, and another batch of emails from 2005-2006 in OE 6 on a Windows XP PC.
I would like both sets of emails on my new Macbook, in a single email client.
I can save the Mac OE individual emails by dragging into a folder on the OS9 desktop, and these can then be added in OSX Entourage via Drag and Drop. I'm not sure if they can be added to OSX Mail in the same way. I also don't know if attachments will remain intact in the transfer to mbox format.
I intend to use the dbxconv utility for the OE email files on the PC, transfer them to the Macbook, and import into Mail. Likewise, i am wondering about attachments remaining intact.
Safest place for macos downloads. Does this sound like a good plan? Any issues or suggestions I should consider? Thanks in advance.
I did it via the Entourage Test Drive version on my new Intel Mac.
First I created a corresponding folder structure on my USB drive, then dragged and dropped the emails from OE on my old PC to the folders.
Then with USB drive connected to the Mac dragged and dropped into the corresponding folders in Entourage. Then I used Mac Mail - Import Mailboxes - from Entourage.
Mail creates a folder Imports under which all my original folders and the emails appeared.
this worked great for me and i am a complete novice. any idea how i can get an old access database into somekind of mac program which will allow me to print out on postage labels?
That works perfectly well for my case.
I have a inbox.dbx (from Outlook Express) that has 184 emails and converted to inbox.mbx in a couple of minutes using an old PC.
Then I copied the converted file to Mac and changed to inbox.mbox
Then import to Mail.
Thank you,
Simon
A friend has all his emails in Outlook Express on a G3 iMac running only Mac OS 9, and he wants to move them to his new Intel iMac. Unfortunately, Mail's import feature requires Outlook Express to be running. Thusly you need Classic, but Intel Macs don't have Classic.
The solution:
Microsoft Outlook Express For Mac
Part 1: Import from Outlook to Mail
- On a PowerPC Mac with Mac OS X, create a new user account, ImportUser, with admin privileges (System Preferences -> Accounts -> + button). Login as this user. After the importing, we will delete this account.
- Run Outlook Express in Classic (found in /Applications (Mac OS 9) -> Outlook Express 5.02 Folder -> Outlook Express) under this new user account to set up its initial directories, then quit Outlook.
- Copy the contents of /Documents -> Microsoft User Data from the Mac OS 9 computer to /Users -> ImportUser -> Documents -> Microsoft User Data on the PowerPC Mac OS X computer. You may also want to copy Outlook's preferences from /System Folder -> Preferences to /Users -> ImportUser -> Library -> Preferences.
- Open Apple Mail under the ImportUser account. It will refuse to run until you set up an initial email account. I simply entered gibberish into all the fields, except for the email address and user name. It didn't appear to adversely affect the import.
- Start up Outlook under Classic; it should have loaded all the emails just like Outlook on the Mac OS 9 machine did.
- In Mail, choose File -> Import Mailboxes, select Outlook Express from the options, and click Continue. Mail should (very slowly) import all of the emails successfully. When it finishes, you can quit Mail and Outlook.
Part 2: Import from Mail to Mail
- Copy the Mailboxes folder from /Users -> ImportUser -> Library -> Mail to the Desktop of the Intel Mac.
- Open Mail.app on the Intel Mac and choose File -> Import Mailboxes, select Mail for MacOS X, click Continue, and select the Mailboxes folder on your desktop.
- After you are sure Mail on the Intel Mac has successfully imported all of the messages, delete the ImportUser account from your PowerPC Mac as follows. Login as an administrator, go to System Preferences -> Accounts, select the user and click the minus button, then choose the 'Delete Immediately' option from the dialog.
Outlook Express For Mac Yosemite 10
A few notes and warnings..Outlook Express For Mac Yosemite Download
- Place a G3 iMac into target disk mode, connect it to an Intel Mac. The Intel's Finder will freeze and other weirdness will ensue.
- Copy files to an iPod Shuffle in its default MS-DOS format, and your resource forks will be forgotten. Format it as HFS+ to get around this. Then use the iPod software to restore the iPod when you are done.
- I used an iBook G4 running MacOS X 10.4.8 for the initial Outlook -> Mail import. Also, I typed this up from memory from what I did a few days ago, so some of the steps might not be totally exact.
