For Linux Ext2 and Ext3 file systems, you can use the fuse-ext2 module, and then mount Ext2 and Ext3 drives using Terminal (automatic mounting and managing in Disk Utility is not yet supported. FUSE for macOS is a successor to MacFUSE, which has been used as a software building block by dozens of products, but is no longer being maintained.
The Extended File System is the file system used by Linux and Raspberry Pi. The Extended File System, EXT for short, includes EXT2, EXT3, and EXT4. If you work with many platforms you may have noticed that Mac OS X isn’t capable of mounting EXT partitions by itself. This means that if someone would like to mount and read EXT drives and file systems, they would have to use a third-party software service. Though this can seem troublesome, it actually won’t take much time.
The most commonly used tool is OSXFuse. OSXFuse is not only free, but also open-source, Using OSXFuse, you’ll be able to read EXT volumes, and even be able to enable experimental EXT write functions, as well. However, you must keep in mind that EXT write support can cause many problems. It’s not recommended to enable this option. You may end up damaging the partition, or losing all data on the drives. Nonetheless, if you still wish to enable write support for EXT, the option is available.
Be sure you have a backup in place, before enabling the option. Write support is actually disabled by default, and there’s good reason for this. You’ll have to enable the option, if you wish to use it. In order to get started and use OSXFuse to mount EXT4 on your Mac, follow the instructions below.
Use OSXFuse to Mount EXT4 on Your Mac
Since you’re using a third-party tool to carry out this process, you’ll first have to get OSXFuse from the developer, and run the package installer. This may take a few moments of your time, but can usually be done in a matter of moments. In order to get started, get OSXFuse, and use it to mount EXT4 on your Mac, follow the instructions below.
1. Get OSXFuse from the developer, and run the package installer. Please be patient while this process is carried out.
2. Install MacFUSE Compatibility Layer. Though installing this is optional, you’ll need it for FUSE-EXT2

3. After the installation process has completed, reboot your Mac computer.
4. Click on the Apple logo in the top left corner of your screen.

5. From the drop-down menu that appears, click on System Preferences.
6. You’ll see a Fuse for OS X preference panel.
That’s all it takes. You can now connect EXT file systems drives or partitions from Linux on your Mac. You’ll be easily able to read data from the drives and partitions, as you’d expect. This also means you can now access files and copy files from the EXT volume over to your Mac. However, this doesn’t work the other way around.
When you mount EXT drives with FUSE, the volumes will be interpreted as servers or network drives. This means that if you’re hiding desktop icons or connected servers from Finder preferences, then you won’t see it, except in a Finder sidebar.
If you’ve been using OS X for quite some time now, you likely recognized OSXFuse as the new and improved MacFUSE. MacFUSE used to be required in order to gain Windows NTFS support on your Mac. Nowadays though, you can simply enable NTFS write support on Macs directly, without any such third-party tools.
Should You Enable EXT Write Support?
As stated above, using OSXFuse you can enable write support. However, this option is disabled, by default, and there’s good reason for this. Write support to EXT is still considered experimental and isn’t directly supported by FUSE. This is because using write support could result in losing the data on your drive. It is highly recommended that you stay away from enabling write support. There are many risks you will be taking if you choose to ignore this recommendation.
You may even damage the Linux partition or drives file system. Do this at your own risk. If you feel you absolutely must enable write support, then you should first ensure that you have a backup of your data and drive. Even if you decide to listen to the warning and stay away from EXT write support, it’s still essential you have a backup of your data and drives, in order to preserve your data, if something should go wrong.

There is another alternative: ExtFS from Paragon Software.
I've bought their NTFS file system for Mac OS and found it solid.
Paragon appears to have a lot of experience on the Windows side already, so their FS drivers are well tested in that regard.
They offer a 10 day trial, and it's not expensive, either.

While I have tried neither, Paragon nor fuse-ext2, I think $39,95 is expensive. In my time on the mac I came across multiple ntfs drives, but only one with ext. I did use an Ubuntu live cd that one time to access the drive. The 5 minutes to reboot is still cheaper than paying $40 ..
I did try Paragons NTFS driver once (which is cheaper btw) and compared it with the MacFuse ntfs-3g driver. While I had no complains about Paragons solution, I had none about nfts-3g either. So I did stick with ntfs-3g, nothing beats free. So I'm looking forward to a free solution for an exotic problem, which does not justify paying money (at least not for most of us).
Fuse For Macos Ext3 Driver
I find the easiest and most reliable way to access linux ext3 partitions on my mac is to run Ubuntu in a vmware virtual machine on the mac. Once running you can connect Ubuntu to the ext3 drive via usb, and this way you can get complete reliability reading and writing to ext3 file systems. It's fast because the disk is directly connected to the mac, unlike on a network. And you can use it to copy files very quickly to/from the mac host by using shared directories or any number of other ways.
In order to run this, you must run either as a physical CD by burning the ISO file, or by using the Virtual DVD/CD mount tool found here as this has a copy protect mechanism coded into the application. There's some nice 90's sounds to this little product and worth having if you've got an old G4 or G3 tower / iMac with software like Cubase VST5/32 and other bits to write some funky material.
